For my classroom, I plan to do whole brain teaching where students will participate in authentic learning. The Explorers rug is where students come for whole group meeting and occasionally small group. I also have a calming corner in my classroom for when students are having a hard time or need just a few minutes to compose themselves before they come to me for help. My goal for my classroom is for us to be a family and I want guests that come into our classroom to feel that as they walk through the door.
*Flexible Seating* This is something new that I am researching before I have my own classroom. I have learned much through many blogs of teachers who are doing this type of seating. The many pro's of this seating is students are having choices about where they are able to sit as they learn, this differentiation in seating is ideal to fit each type of learner, and the work environment is much more learner friendly since students want to pick where they sit causing an almost built in reward system. Cons are the time you have to take to get students to get used to this type of classroom seating which strays away from the norm. This can take up to a week to two weeks depending on your class and how well the teacher has laid down the rules. Here is a blog post I recommend if you are interested in learning more about flexible seating!
